"Portrait of an Absence" is a small mixed-media series exploring memory, absence, and the uncertain territory between what is known and what is imagined.

The works revolve around the idea of a person who exists only through fragments -someone whose presence can be sensed, yet never fully grasped. Shaped by incomplete recollections, second-hand stories, and the gaps that time inevitably creates, the portraits do not seek to reconstruct an identity. Instead, they examine the experience of searching for a human presence within what remains missing.

Emerging from charcoal darkness, the figures resist clear recognition. Their eyes are left unresolved, as though withholding certainty or refusing to settle into a fixed narrative. Blue spider lilies appear throughout the series as delicate markers of remembrance. In many traditions, these flowers are associated with death, separation, and passage into the afterlife, quietly reinforcing the themes of loss and distance that run through the work.

At its core, the series reflects on the limits of knowing another person and the ways absence can shape our understanding of a life. It considers mortality, memory, and the human tendency to create meaning from fragments, while accepting that some stories remain forever incomplete.
