Typical Dutch landscape: a row of pollard willows on a dyke. A common view in the vicinity of my studio. In winter, when they are pruned, they look like rows of little men sometimes waving or cheering. Here they are still surrounded by their cut off branches showing the freshly cut heads. It always amazes me how quickly they can change into adult trees again in the summer.
Because of the roughness of the shapes I used thick oilpaint and palette knifes. And to challenge myself I used very little color: veridian green, perusian blue, crimson and a touch of yellow ochre (besides a little black or white).
