Plough Your Own Furrow takes me back to my early explorations in landscape monotypes. At the time, I had just discovered how to print richly patterned textures using layers of ink and patterned paper. Returning to the theme of a simple ploughed field with hedgerow takes me back to my roots: where my printmaking experiments began and fields and hedgerows of my childhood. I wanted to revisit the subject on a larger scale, as I’m often asked for bigger pieces

A monotype is a one-off hand-made print, just as unique as a painting. I used rollers and dabbers to spread out ink on a smooth plastic board then made marks with a cloth and other tools. The ink was transferred to the paper using a hand-operated printing press. I built up layers of over-lapping colous by printing several times. I incorporated textures by impressing inked up textured paper and fabric. I also used paper stencils to make the crisp edges.

The paper is 56 x 55.5 cm and it’s printed edge-to-edge, with no margin, to maximise the image area. A double mount and frame will set it off beautifully.. It can be also be flat mounted so the image edges are revealed. Supplied unmounted/unframed, rolled in a wide, strong tube. Framed images are shown for scale and context only - frame not included.
