The tree that patiently waits.
Our lives pass by—full of movement, events, emotions, and constant activity. The tree sees it all… Although this is an abstract work, there’s much that can be recognized. I see a grand house by a canal in Amsterdam. Is there a man waiting on the doorstep? A boat drifting by? Do you see a dog eagerly awaiting its owner’s return? A bicycle leaning against the wall?
I worked on this painting for weeks. It’s rich with structure and color, layered with marks and blotches, bold gestures and delicate details. I love it!
This large mixed-media piece began purely as an abstract work. I try not to think about a subject until *it* reveals itself to me. Sometimes it truly feels as if the subject emerges from the canvas.
Because the canvas was made of raw, unprimed cotton, I first reinforced it by gluing pieces of wallpaper onto it and applying thick layers of gesso and plaster. This created a beautiful texture to work with. The painting consists of countless layers of acrylic paint. I used brushes, palette knives, paper cutouts, and also splattered paint with sprays and a wet brush.
To protect my paintings from UV-light and dust I varnish my paintings with at least 2 coats of matt varnish.
The back is wired and the painting is ready to hang.
