Anytime he needs to mix paint, he does so on a professional grade artist canvas. He uses canvases as his palettes so he is never wasting paint. He also enjoys the surprises he gets when random colors are mixed next to other random colors.
He likes the challenge of turning his palettes into complete, cohesive paintings. He most admires the processes and paintings of the Abstract Expressionists. Motherwell, DeKooning, Hoffman, Frankenthaler etc. and hopes his paintings and the processes he uses reflects his admiration of them and their art.
