‘Nothing, nothing’ is a nostalgic piece. A nostalgia for endless evenings, youthful dreams and running enthusiastically through knee high mud.
The painting depicts a footballer taking a wild swing at a ball, seemingly launching it into orbit. A signal perhaps that any perceived talent doesn’t match any ability. This is of no consequence however: ignorance offers a fine escape from reality.
In the background, a sunset provides a warmth that envelops both the character and the narrative. This is the same warm colour of which nostalgia is often formed. Higher up, where this comforting light is fading, a vast near empty void portends what may lie ahead in later life.
