An original painting of a Leopard portrait with a black background completed with special acrylic paint on lightly textured, high quality black leather box-framed (see the photo) ready for wall hanging. I like doing wildlife work with a realistic style making the animal the sole subject of the painting and only a hint of the surrounding it is in
There must always be some challenge in producing each leather artwork, in this case adapting my painting technique to capture a Leopard in low light in the wild utilising the texture of the leather to provide a near 3D surface finish to capture the texture of its fur.
The painting is ready to wall-hang, the artwork is not behind glass - the extremely robust and tactile nature of the paint and techniques used means the painting can be touched.
The reason for using leather as a medium to paint on is often asked. In this case as with all of my leather art, the leather hide chose is not by accident. The texture and colour must add to the composition, in this case the size of texture perfectly added to the semi-3D effect. Some artists prepare the ground to give texture. I use the natural and random texture of leather in the same way.
The painting process I have developed over the past 10+ years has enabled me to exploit a feature that many mediums avoid. My leather art is not behind glass. The process and materials I use means that the leather art is waterproof and should be seen and appreciated - including touching as you can sculpture. I paint art on leather jackets as well so the process is well proven.
So if you are looking for art that is innovative this could be what you are looking for.
