Artwork description:

Dynamic horse and rider sculpture series with a strong sense of life and movement, and an ethereal and contemplative twist.

Small sculptures that transform your furniture into their own landscapes, created in a beautiful innovative British eco-resin that is distinctive and affordable.

The “Nature-Spirit Riders” are at one with their horses, their nature, and their embodied selves. They have come out of the woods together after a long journey, and are cantering along in an easy harmony. They centre around a feeling of unity that can arise with a horse, another person, or within our understanding of ourselves. Perhaps they represent something natural that we long to return to and which still remains available for us to remember.

Every time I encounter a horse I am amazed by the beauty of their integrity. I always feel moved, as if their honesty enables me to re-connect with that part of myself. Naturally, I default to making horses whenever I need to communicate this kind of feeling. My connection with horses feels like how these people are riding, and I find it sustaining and replenishing. The riders’ antlers add to that sense of wisdom from the natural world.

I made these sculptures by modelling them with wax onto a wire armature, or framework, and then I mould them and cast them using an innovative technique that I originated, which allows me to reproduce the beautiful translucent cream colour of the original wax into a durable material.
You can see pictures of me casting them in my “Me at Work” section of my Profile.

These sculptures are made of a vibrant contemporary British eco-resin, and are mounted individually on semi-translucent almost black flat acrylic bases. They are for sale as a limited edition of 24, and are 62cm long x 17cm tall and 7cm wide all together including the bases. The translucent colour allows glimpses through to the armatures, or wire frameworks, that are an integral and intriguing part of the sculptures. They are each initialled on the inside of the top of the horses’ left hind leg, and come with a signed letter of authentication stating the edition number.

These sculptures are beautiful to live with, and they provide a moment of surprise as you glimpse them running across your furniture, allowing you to contemplate things in a different way.

Although these sculptures look delicate they are actually much more robust than they appear and they can withstand small knocks and movements in the home. Being made in a light-weight material, they weigh less than half a kilo each, and are easy to transport and move about. I package them in a sturdy cardboard box and they travel very well by courier.

See my further listings to purchase any of them separately, and please feel free to send me a message with any questions. There is a “Contact Me” button next to the “Follow Me” button under my profile images. Thank you so much for your interest in my work.
