Original artwork description:

NAOMI is an ethnic sculpture that pays tribute to women throughout the world and throughout history.

It expresses the gentleness and raw beauty of femininity through its curves, its wooden headdress and its modest smile, reminiscent of Asian women.

It belongs to the Ostreïdes series, which expresses the complexity of life in its search for the most appropriate form for survival, as well as the wisdom of the mind applied to the transformation of matter.

Made from natural knotty vine wood saved from the flames, as this wood is usually used as common firewood...

The work begins with the vine wood, which must be peeled, cleaned with a magnifying glass, all hollows and dirty or crumbling parts removed, unwanted parts sawn off and the necessary shapes carved with a gouge. Next comes the work of modelling the face and bust with superfine wood cellulose, which, once dry, is painted and varnished.

Mounted on a black iron base to stabilise it, as the wood is heavy. It is designed to be placed on the edge of a piece of furniture with the legs hanging down to highlight its graceful sitting position.

Dimensions including and from the bottom of the base: H 45 x W 11 x D 45 cm.

Dimensions without base (height between feet and top of headdress): 56 cm.

Weight: 2.340 kg.

Materials used:

natural vine wood, wood surfine cellulose, acrylic paint, varnish
