Music. Venice (2025) Original Oil Painting by Natalia Matveeva

One day, while walking through Venice, I noticed a small window with exquisite curtains. The curtains were decorated in the Richelieu embroidery technique with little angel musicians.

I took this motif as my starting point and created this square painting. It is painted in white on a black imprimatura, in a graphic style. Only the orchid introduces subtle touches of colour. The flower seems to bring this little musical scene and the entire composition to life.

I feel that the work turned out very concise and poetic. There is truly music in it — the music of Venice.

The edges of the painting are black, matching the background of the image.
