Misty poppy meadow
Summer sky,
The radiant red flowers,
Heatwave time,
An inviting breeze,
In the rustic Dorset countryside.

Words and thoughts.
Original expressive poppyscape on Fabriano watercolour paper 300gsm 140lb.
A bright and meaningful watercolour painting depicting the landscape full of wild poppies that I saw in between Blandford and Dorchester.
I was lucky to see them as this poppy meadow is near a fast road there is a lay-by so I could pull over and take it in for the composition.
I used a wet on wet technique with gestural movement. Expressive and spontaneous.
The paper was damp when applying back washes then I released the different shades of greens for the tree line pressing, dabbing the paint on to build up the shapes. I dropped the pigment of different shades of red for the poppies and where the paper was drying the poppies look more defined.
Signed on the front and back of painting.
Certificate of authenticity.

Materials used:

Fabriano 300gsm 140lb watercolour paper, sable hair brush, Chinese brush, filbert brush, French sennelier watercolour paint,
