Meet me there (2024) Original Acrylic Painting by Paul Ward
17 x 36 x 1cm (unframed) / 17 x 36cm (actual image size)
£823.79
Original artwork description
Who thought the back of an old wooden chair would be such a good starting point for a painting?
A painting in the shape of a vase that collects together my many trips to graveyards both near and far. Leagues away from the gloom-shadowed artwork you might expect, 'Meet me there' celebrates the beautiful curiosities I've been lucky enough to stumble upon whilst crunching the gravel of seemingly endless cemeteries.
The central figure is an example of a 'Green man,' a figure draped in foliage that represents rebirth and new growth. It's a symbol that stretches across many cultures and seems to have appeared out of thin air having no exact origin.
Other elements of the vase tell their own little stories, from creeping vines reclaiming stone carvings to the eponymous request for a rendezvous in the afterlife.
Materials used:
Acrylic on recycled wood

- Acrylic painting on Panel / Board / MDF
