The magnolia bloomed early this year in Germany, but, as it happens sometimes in early April, several frosty days hurt the buds and most of them wilted before could blossom. Therefore, I am very glad that I could make a small watercolor painting with magnolia flowers during my February trip to Italy. There were no leaves on the trees yet, and the contrasting combination of dark branches, pinkish buds and blue sky was particularly inspired. The bright green grass reminds us about spring that coming soon at full speed.
I tried to contribute a bit of picturesque chaos, abstractly arranging branches, flowers and color spots of grass and sky. My main goal was to convey the impression, the spring wind, and the bright Italian sun shining warmly even in February.
