LUST FOR LIFE (2026) Original Mixed-media Painting by db Waterman

The abstract beachscape *LUST FOR LIFE* began with a base layer featuring the look of weathered concrete. The surface was built up layer by layer using plaster, acrylic paint, and pastels.

Sanding, scraping, and scratching reveal parts of the underlying surface once more, creating the raw, weathered aesthetic that characterizes my work.

 I incorporate various elements into the layers. Scraps of old wood, traces of an old boat, peeling paint, letters, numbers, and fragments of text. I find it compelling when these elements aren't immediately recognizable but instead emerge as subtle details amidst the layers of paint; up close, you discover something new every time.

 The landscape featuring the running child emerges subsequently.
For me, the boy is the central image of the piece: a child running free and unencumbered by a care in the world.

The figure's movement creates a beautiful contrast with the raw, silent background.

I enjoy working this way: the background develops almost organically through the process of adding, removing, and reapplying layers.

The image itself only takes shape later. The result is an abstract landscape rich in texture and intricate detail.

 *LUST FOR LIFE* is a unique, original mixed-media artwork celebrating movement, freedom, and the ability to enjoy life just as children do.
