She is Sophie (Maddison Jaizani), in "Versailles", the TV Series, Season 1.
This artwork belongs to my "L'une" series.
retaken now, on June 2025
- This portrait plays with the contrast between control and chaos. I started with a more realistic face and then let instinct take over — using bold marks, bright color, and even paint drips to break it apart.
It’s not about destroying the subject, but about interrupting perfection — letting in something more emotional, more urgent. I don’t over-explain it; it’s meant to be felt more than decoded.
What is the meaning of L'une ?
It is a double meaning word. I found it appropriate for this series; in French it means "the one" (she), and "Lune" - moon.
It's a moody portraits series, where I want to express the fragility and beauty of the woman features, by trying to capture a moment, an impression. They seem reflexive, or day dreaming, or maybe slipping into a melancholic, undefined mood.
