Lonely Bird is a painting about the particular feeling of standing at the edge of something immense and wondering where you belong.
Two figures occupy different ledges of a towering cliff — each with their own small cockatoo companion, each looking out into the wide periwinkle sky. They are near one another, yet each feels alone in their own contemplation. The cliff face swirls beneath them in deep teal and emerald, luminous and alive, flecked with orange and gold like light through deep water.
The vertical format pulls the eye downward into the depths, where the colours deepen, and the world grows quieter still. It is a painting about solitude that doesn't quite feel lonely — because the birds are there, the sky is vast, and beauty is everywhere you look.
