ABOUT ME
My name is Ryan Louder. I am an Oil Painter and a Songwriter. I have Narcolepsy, a brain disorder that does not allow the brain to wake up. Because of this I have a condition called "Hypnagogic Dream Intrusion" while awake. This is life limiting, but allows me to be incredibly creative and to have a career painting and writing music with many successful music artists (Dido, Dua Lipa etc).
When it comes to painting the condition is at its most fascinating. I can hallucinate/dream the image onto a blank canvas and paint. Even if I use reference material it will change and manipulate as I paint into something unique. This is because my brain dips in and out of REM dream sleep very quickly. This allows me to put aside thoughts of technique and to be able to just concentrate on the emotion of what I am painting.

This condition sounds fantastical and magical (which it is) but it is scientifically proven by scanning my brain under the best Neurologist sleep specialists in the world at Guy's Hospital London.

I hope this explanation offers you a glimpse into my world and my paintings.
