Light on the Hajar Photograph by Basel Almisshal

Late light moving across the Hajar Mountains of Oman, picking out one ridge after another until the range reads as layers of rock and shadow. I waited for the moment when the geology itself seemed to be drawn in light.

These mountains taught me to read landscape the way I read buildings. The strata are structure; the erosion is ornament; the light is the architect that changes everything hour by hour. This frame holds the range at its most sculptural, just before the sun lets go of it.
