Two lances. Almost nothing else. In France, the Sète jousting festival reduced to its essential geometry: face-to-face, axis, duel.
The city launched a poster contest for les joutes de Sète. This is what came out of it: the second before impact. Not the splash, not the fall - the silence.
The boats positioned. The crowd not yet breathing. Water that seems to have stopped moving.
That suspended moment is what this painting is about. The whole ritual compressed into a tension that hasn't broken yet.
