Award-Winning & Published Original Pastel Painting

Just Waiting is an original pastel wildlife portrait capturing a moment of stillness, patience and quiet observation.

Leopards possess an extraordinary combination of strength, elegance and mystery. With this portrait, I wanted to move away from portraying the animal through action or aggression and instead capture a quieter moment — alert, watchful and completely aware of its surroundings.

The expression and eyes became the emotional centre of the painting. There is a sense of anticipation in the gaze, as though something has caught the leopard's attention and we have entered its world for just a moment.

The artwork was created entirely by hand using professional artist-quality pastels on paper. I gradually build my wildlife portraits through many layers, combining soft tonal transitions with extremely fine pastel strokes to create the depth, texture and intricate pattern of the animal's coat.

For me, wildlife realism is about more than technical detail. My aim is to capture the individual character and presence of the animal — creating a connection that can be felt as well as seen.

Since its creation, Just Waiting has received recognition through international art competitions and publication.
