Leader of the Band is a conceptual abstract piece about individualism and standing out in a crowd. Imperfect geometric shapes are done in hues of purples and blues and highlighted with white and pistachio. The shapes are done imperfectly to do a childlike crayon drawing; color outside the lines, to represent the youth. Violet is used once to draw your eye to the "main character". This painting was inspired by my daughter. She is the leader of her high school marching band and I'm very proud of the person she has become; she stands for what she believes in and never follows along; she is strong in her own unique person, she is, the Leader of the Band.
