I have loved to walk in this area near Middleton in Teesdale, County Durham for many years. Kirkcarrion (marked by a copse of trees) is reputed to be a bronze age burial site.
This is painted on course hessian using texture to reflect the rugged landscape. I've used many glazed and scumbled layers and tried to convey the atmosphere of a wintry afternoon.
Materials used:
Hessian, oil paint, Liquin original and impasto.
