Kettle, Teapot, Breadboard, Matches Giclée print by Eric Ravilious

60 x 50cm (unframed)

£215

Watercolour design for Dunbar Hay Ltd, a gallery-cum-shop founded in 1936 by Cecilia Dunbar Kilburn and Athole Hay. The business sold furniture, ceramics, fabrics and patterns, and traded for four years before being bombed during World War Two. Much of the stock and all of the business records were destroyed, but when the shop existed it flourished as a place where good design could be found. Bawden (see Biographies) as well as Ravilious provided art works and designs – in fact Ravilious engraved the beautiful Dunbar and Hay Ltd trade card below.

In this print we have simple objects beautifully arranged: kettle, teapot, breadboard, matches, a pair of scissors – all humble. But since so much of our lives get lived at the kitchen or dining room table, so richly evocative.

This print is authorised for publication by the artist's Estate and has a seal of authenticity embossed onto the white paper margin. It is from a limited edition of 950 and is hand-numbered and hand-embossed. This print has a typed caption running along its paper border. The caption indicates permission and authorisation from the artist's Estate, and from the museum or gallery holding the work. The caption will be concealed by a mount when the print is framed.

Dispatch time: 5 working days for unframed prints. 14 working days for framed prints.

About
Eric Ravilious found a quiet strangeness in the English landscape: chalk hills, empty lanes, greenhouses and lighthouses, painted in pale, precise watercolour that feels both familiar and slightly unreal. A... Read more
