Japanese Water Iris on Violet

A close cropped, large scale close up of a Japanese Water Iris against a deep, rich violet background. Built up with layers of white and pure violet pigment, and finished with a vibrant green-yellow, this painting pulls flashes of unexpected colour to heighten the feel of the flower.
The water iris features an incredible violet tinge to their white petals, along with an almost neon yellow flash. The bold colours make these diminutive flowers feel bigger and stronger than they actually are.

While not originally native to the UK, these iris are found in wetlands, around lakes and ponds across the country now, and exist relatively harmoniously within their environments.
