It's here...Joe's Ice Cream! (2017)Oil painting by Emma Cownie

Joe's ice cream is a world famous ice cream, made in Swansea and of which Swansea people are rightly produd. They are also proud of Swansea indoor market, the location of this painting, which is also internationally known.
I wanted to paint iconic Swansea and combining these two was a good way to accomplish that.
However, being an artist who likes to paint pathos in the everyday interaction of people, I could not resist painting a less than enthusiastic or joyful looking cashier in the foreground to counteract the joviality of the Joe's sign and the elevating feeling created by the light stream through the glass roof of this excellent indoor market.
