Another canvas that "makes the mouth", you will tell me. A canvas "that looks sad". Because in life, are we happy or are we sad? Emotions are not binary and Man has a whole range of intermediate expressions. These girls are not "sad". They are meditative, pensive, in full introspection, they are introverted, proud, determined, busy, and, above all, they are not there to please you, to make you happy, to smile at you. Frankly, who has ever seen masterpieces in smiling museums? There's nothing scarier. And this injunction to smile, it just reminds me of street harassment and the many times I got stopped in the middle of the street by a ballsy living being who asked me to smile because "I'll be prettier that way". Clearly, I'm pissing you off. And my daughters, on the canvases, they annoy you too. They are not your shrink, they are not there to make you happy, my art is not there to make you happy. Go to the circus, watch a comedy, or fend for yourself.
This rant was offered to you by an artist who is tired of being told that her paintings "are sad", "all make faces", which "is not surprising because you [the artist, editor's note] also look sad".
