Original artwork description
In human nails XXIV, welded and ground wire pins come together to form an upward-striving figure. Its matt, black-lacquered surface conveys an air of calm and understated presence. The fine vertical lines appear to evaporate into space, while simultaneously condensing anew – symbolising the fragility and constant change of human existence.
The fibre-reinforced concrete base, marked by the grain of the brushed wood formwork, gives the sculpture an archaic, organic character. It strikes a balance between industrial austerity and natural structure, providing a powerful counterweight to the figure's light, almost ethereal appearance. A waxed steel plate provides a tangible anchor for the work in the space.
This creates a striking tension between material and effect, and between the physical grounding of the base and the immaterial presence of the figure.
