There is a particular peace in the place that knows you, where every path is one you have walked before and every face is one you love. You do not have to arrive here. You already belong.

Home Ground is an original acrylic painting on board, 30 x 40cm, part of my ongoing series The Middle Country. It began the way these paintings always do, with a loose, accidental ground, half accident and half intention, made somewhere in the middle where the paint and I meet. Out of that ground came a whole hillside of life, cockatoos crowding the golden trees, a homestead on the high ground, a couple standing together, a cyclist, figures moving through it all above a sweep of blue water.

I paint the things that mean something to me: my family, held in the figures and the birds who move through this glowing, imagined landscape. This one is about belonging, the deep peace of the place that already knows you, where nobody has to arrive because everyone is already home.
