Artwork description:

Holly Cheer is an original linocut. A snapshot attempting to capture a particular kind of feeling. A feeling of when you’re in lost in thought during a walk and you happen to look up and around you at just that perfect moment when nature gently reminds you, through its gemstones of ruby red against the glorious greens, that everything is happening perfectly. An uplifting feeling of instant joy, rejuvenation and recalibration.

The colours and overall simplicity of this print reflect how a brief second of a glimpse within nature has the power to transform multiple thoughts into something simple; returning you to yourself, returning you to your inner home through outer connection.

Holly Cheer linocut print is made in the reduction technique. This is a method of block printing where each colour layer is taken from the same block, carving each layer and printing the next colour on top of the last. There are seven layers of colours, with each layer mixed using a hint of the previous colour, and all from a Payne’s Grey mixed base.

Holly Cheer is lovingly carved on Battleship grey lino, printed with oil based printmaking ink, using an etching press. To reflect the smooth textures, I chose to print on Somerset paper and utilise its soft yet crisp qualities. Intentional choices are made when selecting the block and paper to print on; each to compliment form and landscape.

Signed and numbered edition of 30.

Paper size: 15 (h) x 10.5 (w) cm
Print size: 12 (h) x 9 (w) cm

Your original print will arrive unframed, wrapped in acid free tissue and protected in sturdy packaging during transit.

Please note, due to the handprinted nature, each print is unique and there will be slight variations within each edition.

Materials used:

Printed on specialist Somerset printmaking paper with oil-based printmaking inks.
