Original artwork description
I met Haider as he waited to have cataract surgery on the hospital ship provided by the social purpose organisation Friendship in Bangladesh last year.
Haider lived on a tiny remote island that had no electricity and was almost forgotten by the mainstream. He worked hard on the fields each day praying that the floods would not come and destroy his land as they so often did. This cycle could occur as much as 8 times per year as the floods in this region got worse. Despite this constant fear Haider was positive and proud, he would not give up as he had no choice. He had the love of his family and community and this gave him strength
I wanted to show Haider's life journey in the background as he dealt with the constant threat of floods and how despite the trauma and despair he would never give up.
