Garden in Blue 2 (2025)Acrylic painting by Katia Solodka
60 x 90 x 2cm (unframed)
£1,172.21
Original artwork description
This painting was created for my solo exhibition "Garden in Blue," where I explored the transformation of identity in emigration.
After four years of living in the Netherlands, I began to examine how emigration subtly reshapes one’s mentality and sense of self. This inner shift became the foundation of the artwork, where I symbolically combined Dutch and Ukrainian visual traditions to express the process of personal transformation.
The artwork is a vibrant fusion of deep indigo, electric blue, and delicate white tones. A visit to the Delft ceramics museum revealed a strong connection between blue-and-white Delft ceramics and Ukrainian folk motifs, particularly the works of Hanna Sobachko. These parallels inspired this series — a fusion of contemporary abstract painting, botanical symbolism, and cultural identity.
These works reflect the emotional journey of emigration: the blending of two artistic traditions and the emergence of a renewed self shaped by both Ukrainian roots and life abroad.
