Original artwork description:

This painting was created for my solo exhibition “Garden in Blue,” where I explored the transformation of identity in emigration.

After four years of living in the Netherlands, I began to examine how emigration subtly reshapes one’s mentality and sense of self. This inner shift became the foundation of the artwork, where I symbolically combined Dutch and Ukrainian visual traditions to express the process of personal transformation.

A visit to the Delft ceramics museum deepened this exploration and revealed a strong connection between blue-and-white Delft ceramics and Ukrainian folk motifs, as well as the works of Hanna Sobachko. These parallels inspired a new series — a fusion of contemporary abstract painting, botanical symbolism, and cultural identity.

These works reflect the emotional journey of emigration, the blending of two artistic traditions, and the emergence of a renewed self shaped by both Ukrainian roots and life abroad.

The painting is finished with an acrylic varnish with a UV filter.

Materials used:

acrylic paint and acrylic varnish
