Four to the ninth (2026) Original Oil Painting by Lewis Evans

61 x 61 x 5cm / 61 x 61cm (actual image size)

£2,181.98

I was interested in the idea of creating an artwork that lives on the wall of the owner. Something that can be changed according to mood, according to the environment or simply just to keep the artwork alive in their consciousness as they move about their home or place of business or wherever they happen to hang it. After all we live in a world of constant movement and while an artwork is a point of reflection, a quiet place, why not also include the ability to change it as you enjoy it?

So I came up the idea of nine oil paintings, that you can rearrange. Each one is gently held on a backing board with four magnets at the corners. They are easy to move. You can rotate them and put them in different places on the backing board.

And I realised that the number of variations you could achieve was huge. In fact, it’s 4 to the ninth variations. That’s a total of 262,144 different combined images that you can create from these nine canvases.

So, think about it, each combination costs less than one cent. Probably the cheapest art it is possible to buy. Unfortunately, this platform automatically offers discounts without my approval. This artwork is not subject to discounts.
