FOR SURVIVAL (2026) Original Mixed-media Painting by Paolo Scaglioni

100 x 100 x 0.2cm (unframed) / 100 x 100cm (actual image size)

£2,995.48

A sequence of overlapping brushstrokes unfolds across a black field that emerges seamlessly from an equally black frame enclosing the composition. The work articulates a tension between the freedom of gestural expression and the discipline of formal restraint. It may also be interpreted as an allegory of opposing forces—good and evil, dictatorship and anarchy—yet neither prevails. Instead, their conflict remains unresolved, suspended in a condition of perpetual equilibrium. The work is executed on a sheet of Plexiglas. The reverse is painted black, generating a dark ground that engages with the transparency of the support, while the recto is reserved for the gestural brushstrokes, rendered in wall filler to heighten their physical presence and tactile materiality. The Plexiglas sheet measures 2 m) in thickness.

Materials used:

Plexiglas, watercolors, wall filler
