I had long wanted to create a painting in this particular color palette—a combination of brownish-red and blue. In this landscape, I use these colors together with an imagined atmosphere, depicting a church or part of a monastery in the French town of Annecy.
Both the mood and the color palette are entirely imagined. The landscape is decorative, fictional, and surreal, with bold, vibrant colors. My intention was to convey the character of an old French town.
The painting is created on a black imprimatura, finished with a protective varnish, and the edges are painted black.
