Original artwork description:

“Echo Of Night” is part of a series of paintings that take original inspiration from the skies seen along the Sefton coastline in north west U.K. ‘Echo Of Night” is an acrylic on canvas painting on a custom made frame stretcher 89cms height x 81cms wide. Living on the coast I get to see and enjoy many dramatic skies early morning and at twilight time. This painting doesn’t attempt to replicate reality.
“The creative process lies not in imitating, but in paralleling nature; translating the impulse received from nature into the medium of expression, thus vitalizing this medium. The picture should be alive, the statue should be alive and every work of art should be alive." – Hans Hoffman.
This is a twilight painting. It aims to capture the light, the soft glowing light from the sky when the sun is below the horizon, caused by the reflection of the sun's rays from the atmosphere. There is an ambiguity and obscurity in what is seen at twilight time, a diffused illumination. How we understand, absorb and respond to our environments is a common interest. Many people take photographs, others write words and music to express their responses. ‘Echo Of Night’ is an abstract visual response. It is a gestural expressionist painting combining thick impasto against layers of transparent glazed colour. I always reference the Fauvist artists Matisse, Vlaminck and Derain and the Impressionists, Monet, Pissarro and Vuillard together with modernists Gillian Ayres, Hans Hoffman, Howard Hodgkin and Patrick Heron. The painting is shipped in a robust custom made cardboard crate (same as those used to transport large screens). The painting is bubble wrapped to protect the canvas. Further wrapping is made with corrugated card. A wooden frame is placed inside the cardboard crate to preserve the structural strength of the packaging. Each painting is insured to its sale value. Shipping costs within the U.K. take into consideration weight and insurance. U.K. shipping costs for this artwork are £75
