Original artwork description:

“Early Morning Tide” is an acrylic and inks painting on plywood 92cms W x 65cms H x 2cms D. It is part of a new series of land, sea and sky paintings inspired by the Sefton UK, coastal landscape. I walk the coastline every morning as dawn is breaking. The skies I see are dramatic and the light on a bright morning illuminates the dunes. The colours are indeed stunning. Please see the photographs captured on my walks. They are not enhanced or embellished, the colours are true, or as true as my phone sees. The landscape is raw, wild, expansive and empty apart from the animal and bird inhabitants.
The painting is not literal. It is a response to the natural structure and space of the land, sea and sky. The horizontal planes divide the picture plane. I try to explore the culture of a place to make artwork, always looking for manmade marks and stories left behind in a landscape. Landscape is only the beginning, the formal structure – drawings are the starting point for something I play around with in the studio. What happens on the painted surface is frequently creative accident. My paintings are about ‘paint’ whether impasto or light glaze the marks left by paint are important. I see no purpose in striving to make a painting look like a photograph.
The paintings in this series engage with the landscape and its complex history. I’ve always been fascinated by the sea. The light draws me there, particularly in winter when the sun is low. It’s not just scenery that I’m drawn to, but the manner in which the landscape changes itself and the way in which it bears the marks of nature.
The painting is framed in natural pine.
The painting is shipped in a robust custom made cardboard crate (same as those used to transport large screens). The painting is bubble wrapped to protect the canvas. Further wrapping is made with corrugated card. A wooden frame is placed inside the cardboard crate to preserve the structural strength of the packaging. Each painting is insured to its sale value. Shipping costs within the U.K. take into consideration weight and insurance. U.K. shipping costs for this artwork are £75
