Dulcineas (2023) Original Acrylic Painting by Jolanta Talaikiene

60.96 x 76.2cm

£7,247.19

This painting is a symbolic, slightly ironic “diary” of the stages of a woman’s life. At first glance, it may appear to be a scene from a fairy tale or a theatrical performance. The women’s faces are smiling not at the viewer, but at someone beyond them — as though they are guarding a secret known only to themselves.
In the upper corner of the painting is a young woman just beginning her journey through womanhood. The lollipop in her hand symbolizes the naivety and trust of youth, as well as the beginning of “sweet” adventures. The birds beside her are silent observers and guardians.
Meanwhile, the other figure embodies maturity and life experience. The iguana resting on her shoulder symbolizes instinct and primal force. The woman seems detached from it, as though this stage of life has already been lived through and understood. In her hand she holds a doll in the form of Don Quixote — like a trophy of life, conquered and mastered.
The red flowers symbolize passion and the celebration of life.
