Original artwork description
Inspiration: Between the Dutch coast and Great Britain lies a vast, vanished landscape: Doggerland. The area we know as the North Sea has been largely dry land for the past 1 million years. It was a fertile area with impressive rivers. One of the most important places in Doggerland was the valley through which the river flowed. It was greener and warmer. In the winter the river froze and in the spring the ice melted again. The river flooded, causing the warmer water to thaw the top layer of soil. This allowed more plants to grow in the riverbank area than in the rest of Doggerland.
The idea of a vanished land off our coast inspired the artist to create a series of abstract landscapes.
