This surrealist painting tells a story about the boundary between familiar reality and a world that exists just beyond it — perhaps all it takes is opening a door. At the center of a fantastical seascape stands an ordinary white door, yet behind it there is no room or house. Instead, it opens into the infinite universe, filled with galaxies, stars, and distant planets. At the same time, the cosmos seems to be entering the earthly world itself: planets appear above the sea, while countless stars scatter across the sky, transforming a familiar landscape into a space between two realities.

The idea of the painting echoes the atmosphere of the film The Portable Door (2023), in which an ordinary door turns out to be a magical passage into an entirely different world. This cinematic association becomes the starting point for the painting’s own story: imagine opening a familiar door one day and discovering that there is no ordinary room behind it — another universe begins there. Perhaps it is a portal into the unknown, an opportunity to change your life, or an invitation to take a step into a world where the usual rules no longer apply.

In this story, the door becomes a symbol of choice, curiosity, dreams, and the transition into a new reality. It does not frighten us or destroy the world around it. Instead, the impossible exists here naturally, as though it has always been part of this landscape. The viewer is left to decide what lies beyond the door: a distant planet, a parallel life, or perhaps a world born from their own imagination.

This work is closely connected to the concept of “Impossible Landscapes,” a series in which the fantastical enters recognizable reality so seamlessly that we gradually stop asking, “How is this possible?” and begin to wonder, “What if it has always been this way?”
