Artwork description
Desert City II is a contemporary photomontage inspired by the tension between urban expansion and an increasingly fragile environment. Created through layers of photography, graphic elements and architectural forms, the work explores how modern cities continue to grow while facing the challenges of climate change, resource pressure and environmental uncertainty.
The silhouetted figures suggest the movement of people through rapidly evolving urban landscapes, while the network of intersecting lines evokes the infrastructure systems that sustain contemporary life. The bright, sunlit palette and arid atmosphere reference cities shaped by heat, drought and changing climatic conditions. Balancing abstraction with recognisable urban forms, Desert City II reflects on the resilience and vulnerability of modern cities as they adapt to a changing world. Produced as a giclée print on archival paper, the work invites viewers to consider the relationship between human activity, the built environment and the environmental forces that increasingly shape our future.
