Deep in the Garden (2026) Original Oil Painting by Natalia Matveeva

This large-format painting is highly decorative. In this work, I admire the beauty of a small corner of Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild on the French Riviera and, of course, the art of antiquity.

Hidden among the greenery, a crouching Venus statue, created in an antique style and carrying the imprint of time, rests in a small pond. Around it are a grotto and a variety of lush green plants.

The work has a mysterious atmosphere and rich depth of colour achieved through the glazing technique. It is painted on a brown imprimatura and combines glazing with expressive impasto brushstrokes. The edges of the canvas are painted in the same brown colour as the imprimatura.

This painting will become a beautiful addition to any interior.
