Dance of the Flame (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Paul Cheng

I wanted to capture the intense moment of a chef at work, transforming the everyday act of cooking into a performance filled with energy and rhythm. Flame, steam, cookware, and movement come together in a heated atmosphere of reds and oranges, while the chef’s bright white uniform becomes the visual focus. My aim was to make the viewer almost feel the heat, sound, and speed of the kitchen.

I used energetic brushwork, scratched lines, splattered marks, and layered paint to suggest the movement of flame and steam. Strong contrasts of deep black, fiery red, and brilliant white create dramatic light and intensity, while expressive textures allow the figurative subject to merge with a more spontaneous, expressionistic language.
