In this plein air landscape, I wanted to capture a moment where the ordinary life of a courtyard coexists, alongside the remnants of an old fortress in a medieval town in Western Ukraine. What drew me to this particular corner was precisely the way history here is not preserved set apart on a pedestal, but lives side by side with hanging laundry and worn thresholds. The painting was done quickly, as plein air demands, with broad strokes that tried to hold the whole scene at once
