An oil painting with thick paint, in which I wanted to capture deep compassion and consolation in a dramatic moment: it is dedicated to Saint Catherine of Siena consoling a man condemned to death. The saint, keeping her promise to stay by his side until the very end, gives him a final tender embrace with her blessed hands. The intense faces and outstretched hands express a whirlwind of human emotions, from pain to hope, and it seems that the condemned man, resting his head on her chest, whispered to her: “Stay with me and do not abandon me, so that I will be well and die content!” Each brushstroke infuses energy and tension, bringing a powerful evocation of empathy and humanity into your home.
