An abstract, expressive portrait emerges from thick slabs of oil paint, a pensive figure with closed eyes and bold red lips. Creamy white planes, black gestural strokes and flashes of orange and scarlet collide against a rich cobalt-blue ground, giving the face a raw, sculptural presence. Every palette-knife mark is visible, turning emotion into texture and leaving the viewer to imagine the thoughts behind the quiet, introspective gaze. Vahe Bagumyan balances abstraction and feeling in this compact yet powerful work, ideal for collectors of contemporary portraiture, modern interiors, studies and anyone who loves brushwork.
