The sea arches of China Cove at Point Lobos State Natural Reserve have been carved by the Pacific over millennia — and in strong afternoon light, they glow with a warm, almost architectural presence. This painting focuses on that quality of light: the way it bleaches the tops of the cliffs to near-white while pushing the shadowed rock faces into cool lavender and slate.

Wild mustard and coastal scrub occupy the foreground; the far headland dissolves into atmospheric haze. The ocean in the channel between the arches reads as deep teal against the white surf, with flashes of sky blue in the open water beyond.

Painted on linen mounted to 16"x20" aluminum composite panel (ACM) — a stable, archival substrate. The rigid surface allows for confident, direct paint application and will not warp over time. The painting is unframed. It easily slots into a standard 16"x20" picture frame.

Materials used:

oil paint, linen canvas, ACM panel, aluminum panel, Gamvar varnish
