This original oil painting captures the raw, fleeting energy of a sunset over the rugged coastline. Using a bold palette knife technique, I sought to translate the physical weight of the clouds and the shimmering reflection of the sun on the water.

The thick, impasto strokes create a rich, sculptural texture that allows the painting to live and change with the light in your room. Because of the deep relief, the artwork never looks the same: as the sun moves or the lamps are turned on, new shadows appear and different highlights catch the eye. It is a piece that evolves throughout the day, revealing new depths and moods depending on the angle of the light.

The contrast between the deep, moody purples of the storm clouds and the fiery orange of the horizon evokes a feeling of both drama and serenity. This piece is a celebration of nature’s daily masterpiece — the moment when day meets night in a burst of unbridled color.
