Brendon hills, Exmoor, Somerset
In a magical landscape,
Full of beautiful scenery,
Painting outdoors in a heatwave,
In the Kate afternoon light,
View from Slowely hilltop farm.

Words and feelings of being back in late May on my spring bank holiday.
The last time I stayed in the Brendon hills it was the other side of the deep valleys. This time I stayed with my husband and Buster my little terrier at a converted old monastery looking over mini Switzerland as the locals call it. I painted at the start of the heatwave and it was so exciting to create the scenic view looking to the south east of the Brendon hills. I had to zoom in to a certain area as it was so vast. I looked towards the light and what caught my eye. I worked expressively on a very hot afternoon which I will never forget.
Original watercolour landscape on hot pressed Fabriano 300gsm 140lb. Wetting the paper I begin with the sky colours and use similar washes for the background of the view. While the paper was damp I dropped on different colours for the hills and trees. All my energy and emotion went into this watercolor painting.
