Blushed Earth - Abstract painting (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Ellis Hollering

Blushed Earth began with a feeling rather than a plan. I was drawn to the colours of the earth in a soft, early light: the warm rose of clay, the deep wine of autumn leaves, the pale glow just before the day fully begins. Instead of working towards a fixed image, I let the colours lead me and allowed myself to experiment freely.

The painting was built slowly, layer by layer. I applied and partly removed the paint again and again, discovering how each layer could veil the one beneath it while still letting it shine through. This creates the stippled, almost weathered texture that gives the surface its depth. Only at the end did I add the touches of gold, so they catch the light like small glimmers breaking through a haze.

Blushed Earth is part of my Veiled Light series, in which I explore how colour, texture and light can reveal and conceal at the same time.
